Itsushi Kawase

Itsushi Kwase, PhD, is the assistant professor of Visual Anthropology at the National Museum of Ethnology in Japan. Since 2001, he has spent three years intermittently in northern Ethiopia, conducting intensive fieldwork with hereditary musicians and produced several ethnographic films on their musical traditions. He has investigated the prospects and challenges of imparting anthropological knowledge by actively communicating on-screen, and occasionally, debating with people through his films. He has taught as a visitor at the University of Hamburg, Free University of Berlin, SoundImageCulture(SIC), Mekelle University in Ethiopia, Northwest University for Nationalities in China, etc.Filmography www.itsushikawase.com
